Press and hold the Shift and then the F10 key until Command Box pops up.

If this fails I gave you another way to access the Command Prompt from booted DVD, which is to choose Repair My Computer on second screen, then Recovery Tools, then Command Prompt. Did you try this?

I do not fill in the form first - but do the shift + F10. If this is the case, this is where I have been making the mistake. Lets see

Bingo, this is the black screen I now have:

Quote:
Aministrator X:/windows/system32/cond.exe

Microsoft Windows [version 6.1.7601]

x:/Sources
Is this where I now type in the 'clean' set of instructions you have told me?

Yes:

Diskpart
List Disk
Select Disk 0 (confirm first it's your HD by size)
Clean
Exit

Then click to next screen to Install Now and proceed with Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Okay, I am getting excited because I know we are nearly there.

I typed in Diskpart and pressed enter.

I typed in List Disk and pressed enter and short list appears.

I cannot 'select' or highlight - so typed Disk 0 - long list appears

I then typed Clean (message says) There is no disk selected. Please select a disk and try again.

Please can you tell me what I am doing wrong here. Is there a way of highlighting to select disk 0?????

You need to actually type
'SELECT DISK 0'
not just '0' or select anything.

The command given is Select Disk 0.

BRILLIANT!!! Sorry this wasn't clear to me.

OKAY

now reads

Quote:
DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the disk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have now exited

AND now Custom Installing Win7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will get back to you guys tomorrow with a new readout when it has completed.

THANK YOU BOTH so very much for your time and patience with me!!!!

Phew! Tomorrow I am looking forward in pressing the button on the thread to say it is 'solved'!

It didn't give me an option to partion, so it is one big harddrive.

Ps. To anyone reading this thread - the last two pages were all about the right 'timing' when pressing certain F keys and being very specific in what one typed.

Do you have your wireless or ethernet driver on a stick in case the installer doesn't have your LAN driver?

You'll know shortly if it asks for network info when you are still in the latter installation phase. That means it's already connected.

If not you'll need to install either depending on whether you want wired or wireless connection.

Then get your Windows Updates to get additional drivers under Optional Updates. Continue with tutorial steps.

There are *very* few drivers that Win7 doesn't have for a Vista computer - so hopefully none will be required. Once connected, I've generally found that WU is adequate to get basic drivers which mbe missung installed - and Acer have a nasty habit even on high-end machines, of abandoning driver updates as soon as the machine hits the streets (although they may do Win7 drivers, they are probably very few and far between)
