Big Greetings Noel & Gregrocker - I do believe this has been a success!!!!

Windows installed sooooo quickly this time and has all been updated and activated etc, and running so fast now. I have yet to see what drivers etc I might be missing (is there a free program that would tell me?) My keyboard is not quite working properly, it keeps jumping when typing; do I need to install a 'touchpad' driver from Acer?

Below are my readouts for you guys to check, to see if all is hunky dorey.

The Boot Manager Readout says: "Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]" is this normal as that 7601 number is what gave me half of these nightmares?

As you can see, I only have one partition now 'C' - I am guessing that has to remain like this now?

I would have liked to install 'virtual XP' - so that my printers and other external devices etc would work again, will I need to purchase another internal harddrive to put inside the laptap for this?

Anyway, besides the above, you beautiful clever guys, Thank YOU so very much for all your advice, patience and time for helping out this non tech damsel in distress. Being able to use this laptop at last is priceless! Due to this being a forum and miles between us, I cannot buy you a beer - yet if you meet a tall lady with blonde hair in your dreams one night buying you both loads of beer in a virtual pub - that will be me. Smile.

I will not click the button to say 'solved' until you have looked at the specs.

Thank YOU again - BIG KISSES blowing your way......

Great - that looks good - there's a minor error in teh MGADiag report that should be corrected by going to validate at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate - you'll be offered MSE and IE9 when it passes.

Take IE9 - if you haven't already installed an Anti-Virus, tehn I suggest that you also install MSE.

The 7601 simply means that you already have SP1 installed - so there's less updating to do :)

For XP Mode, simply download and install it, following the instructions carefully - it's a program that runs within Windows, so no new hardware required. (note that it will take a fair chunk of your hard drive space - depending on what you install into it, it could be over 20GB when in use)

Everything looks good to me - Have fun and good luck!

    (Phew! :))

    Hi Noel,
Here is another reading now that I have activated 'again' Win7. Hopefully this reads now all okay? Is there anything else I need to do, or to be aware of, or know before clicking the 'solved' button to this thread?
    Thanks again

Well I thought you were following the steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

If so you wouldn't need to ask about whether you should use a driver program. It makes it quite clear how to handle drivers in Win7.

Did you do all of your Updates, making sure to check for optional Updates to see if drivers were provided? Do them now.

Then check the Device Manager to see if any are missing.

    Hi Gregrocker,

Yes I followed the clean install factory OEM instructions. I did all the windows updates late last night, until there were no updates left to select. I also did the optional ones apart from all the languages.

I have lost my crystal eye webcam drivers, device manager says it is working, but it isn't; fortunately I have this driver on a harddrive to install in a little while.

I installed Word 2007 today, so more updates were then downloaded from MS, my keyboard doesn't seem to be jumping about as much now, so maybe something in the update fixed this.

Is my laptop now hunky dorey on the latest readout - can I now at last click the 'solved' button?

Thank you both again - this has been quite a learning curve this end.

    Hi Noel,
Here is another reading now that I have activated 'again' Win7. Hopefully this reads now all okay? Is there anything else I need to do, or to be aware of, or know before clicking the 'solved' button to this thread?
    Thanks again

Have you installed an Anti-Virus yet? (which one?)

You should be able to get the camera drivers (and any more you need) from the Acer site.

Other than that - yep, it's definitely 'solved!'
