Wait until it asks.
If it doesn't ask, then use the System properties link, or the SLUI 3 command (in the Start> Search box) to force it.

Hi Noel,

I had to put the new product key in system properties.

Okay, followed instructions 1 - 10 - Activation said 'non genuine'

re: telephone activation - the option for telephone activation is not appearing any longer (was yesterday). Just gone onto microsoft support website followed the instructions with wizzard still no option for telephone activation.

Not sure what to do now......

Here is the report (sorry I don't know how to put it in the neat box)

The WAT error 0x80072EFD indicates the lack of an internet connection - which may be contributing to your other problems.
The 0xc004c4a7 error is a very rare one that indicates a 'OEM or Volume binding error' - which as far I can see shouldn't be relevant in this context.

The only thing I can think of is that the whole installation is based on a fully BIOS-locked copy of Windows which has had the 'normal' activation routes taken out, or that there is a hacker's Loader tool present which is blocking the normal route.

If either is the case, the only options are a reinstall - either a repair install, or a clean install, with genuine Retail media (which can be downloaded)

First you should telephone your local Activation Center and confirm that the Key is a genuine one. - you can get the number from the listing here.... Microsoft Volume Licensing - Activation Centers
Explain your problem to them - that MGADiag and Validation think your installation is non-genuine, so you'd like to confirm the Key's status prior to a reinstall.

One question I did neglect to ask before - You did acquire these upgrade disks from the respective machine's manufacturer, didn't you? (and not off the internet from somewhere like eBay?)

Hi Noel,

Bless you, I will give them a call now. Should I leave the new disc key number of win7 on or revert back to the one that use to work?

Yes, both win7 discs came from a sub division of Acer. Both totally genuine.

Thanks again for the advice, I very much appreciate it.

Big Kisses to you from Realeyes.

I will update this thread with what progress is made.

I just had a thought Noel,

Could the error have occured because I did a clean install with disc 2? I could not use the Acer disc 1 that would normally overlay on Vista.

Possibly - but the machine is an Acer so it should be OK for it (I don't believe they are model-specific)

You should keep one key for the laptop (the one that activated on that) and one for this machine.
There's no reason why you shouldn't query both Keys in the same call, but there maybe a policy of one Key per call.
Get this machine sorted out first.

Hi Noel,

Just to give you an update.

I reloaded Win7 (once activated) product key in.

Spoke to Microsoft, he ran me through the activation again. Then told me to fill out the counterfeit section on their website and assured me it would be sorted out for me.

All forms filled in, and will be sending my genuine Acer discs to Microsoft.

I don't know how this works, hopefully they will send me a disc with win7 on it? I hope so, it is most important to have a disc in case one needs to do a clean re-install at times.

Thanks so much for your help and time, I so appreciate it. I will post again hopefully with very happy news with a working laptop next time. Smile.

I am very surprised at this!
However, it sounds as if you have a good case for a complimentary replacement - which could take a few weeks, depending on their workload.
Plese let us know the eventual outcome.

Here is an update: Microsoft have just emailed me and they are posting me a complimentary win 7. They didn't give me any explanation as to why my genuine win7 discs from Acer are now deemed (by them) invalid.

Anyway, I look forward in recieving the disc. I presume I will have to do a completely new install, so I had better remove what little I have on there beforehand.

Thanks again for all your help. I so appreciated it, at last this nightmare is about to come to an end.

A result!
You should simply be able to swap the Key into your current install - but yes, the best thing to do would be a clean install, so make sure that you have all data backed up, and a note of any other Product Keys you need, and the installers that you may have downloaded.

The new Key is only going to be licensed on the first machine on which it is installed, so make sure that it's the right one (there's a Secondary set of License terms)

Once you've got it installed, activate it and validate it. It'd be nice to see a new MGADiag report as well, so we can finally set this to rest.

Good luck!
