I recently had to do a new install on a new hard drive. I used my OEM disc to do the install. However, when it came time to activate the installation. I could not activate. Here is the information about the install. I home someone can help me. I cannot find the first two sections of the Product ID. I have attached the other information about my system.

The product key should be there on the box of the disk or in a COA sticker on the body of the computer.

If it's an off the shelf OEM or Retail version you don't want to post your whole Product code anyway. It would be unique to that PC and you would want to keep it private. Did you enter a product code during the installation?

The OEM disc was purchased back in 2006. So no there is no COA sticker on a sleeve anywhere, since I have moved several times since 2006. However I can post the complete results of the test.

I'm no expert on this stuff but it looks to me like no product code was entered and its running on the 30 trial period. You can't activate because a valid product code wasn't entered. The product code listed in the report is a generic code Windows enters when you leave the product code field empty during installation. This doesn't help now but for future reference, you could have retrieved the code from the previous install with a keyfinder utility. You may be SOL now if you can't find your original packaging that has your Product Code on it.

Hi,

MGADIAG reports a RETAIL licence, but you said you installed using your OEM disk.....in addition an OEM disk purchased in 2006 would not contain Windows 7 on it. Windows 7 was released in in 2009.

Did your PC originally come with Windows 7 pre-installed, or some other OS such as Vista or XP?

Regards,
Golden

Windows 7 wasn't even released in 2006. Did you have Vista or XP before you installed 7?

The installation is of a Default Key for Windows 7, which means that the Key was not entered during the install.

If this is an Upgrade, then there must be something for it to upgrade from - since the motherboard appears to be a retail one, then it must either be a Retail or an OEM System Builder license.

As 714 says, Win 7 wasn't released until Oct/Nov 2009, so if you had an OEM (something) in 2006, it certainly wasn't Windows 7 - which begs the question of what Key you've been using since then, especially seeing as the BIOS is dated 2010.
If this is a replacement motherboard, and your original install was done in 2006 with an OEM idsk, that license is no longer valid on this machine, and therefore the upgrade is no longer applicable either.
