Only OP can help us settle this if he pleases.:) I wish he does. I have already suggested it. Though normally no information is sent to MS unless an activation request is made, I do not want him to take any chance and so have advised him to disconnect the internet when doing this experiment.
You made no such suggestion in the thread that I can see - although I do agree that it's a good idea, should he choose to take part.

[edit] = sorry - I found the reference in your edit! [/edit]

OK, in any case the suggestion worked. The proof of tha cake is eating.:) The OP can go back to the original MAC address for the LAN and Windows will ask to be activated. Change it again to that of the wireless card and Voodooo ...:) He can repeat this any number of times with the same results. Proof enough.(EDIT: If OP intends to do this repeatedly, he is advised that he disconnect from the internet, for this activation check is usually internal with Windows checking for any changes during every boot.In any experiment of this sort one has to be extra careful and not give any room for MS to get suspicious that the OP is indulging in some sort of illegal activity.)

    Hi

    I have tried this.

Every time put the original MAC in and reboot(or not) it tells me that i have three days to activate Windows. I then replace the MAC with the one "i need" its all fine again

Thank you Voodoo for carrying out the experiment and helping us establish the fact that MAC address indeed plays a part in Windows Product Activation - whether it is Windows XP, Vista or Seven. In appreciation of your experimental spirit you have been repped.

    HI

I have tried it all a number of ways now. LAN on and off, card in and out, I need that address or it's not activated.

    Thanks

    Odd indeed!
Would you please set the MAC so as to show non-genuine/unactivated, and then run an MGADiag report?
It may just give a 0xC004F00F error, or there may be someting else afoot.

Thanks for the info, either way!

(and I admit I was wrong, Jumanji <g>)

    Hello

My apologies NoelDP (and jumanji) for not getting back to this thread sooner, work and one thing and another interfering with my PlayTime!!!

I will post the MGADiag report as requested, just a quick question or two.

    1. Do you wish me to post them in their entirety or edited? From what i remember of these, there is a lot of other stuff that may not be needed?
    2. Is there anything; numbers etc. that i should hide before posting?

    Thanks

    VooDoo

    No problem - I ain't goin' anywhere :)

Simply post the full reports, as there's nothing confidential in them (there are tens - if not hundreds - of thousands of them on the MS forums, and the Privacy statement in the tool will give you some detail of what it's about).

    Thanks for coming back!
