I will have our activation expert take a look at this. In the meantime, please have your husband follow the Windows Genuine and Activation Issue Posting Instructions on his computer. Post the results in your next post; do not start a new thread.

Also, may I ask why you are posting and not your husband?

The problem here is the 'Invalid SLIC table' entry near the bottom.
It indicates that either there's a fault in the BIOS, or a fault in the OS itself, which is preventing the OS from properly reading the SLIC table to be able to self-activate teh manufacturer's OEM_SLP Key in use.

Let's see if we can either fix the problem, or get around it....

Please first try recreating the Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store
    1) Click Start button.
    2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
    3) A sinlge entry should appear above in the found files list --right=click on that CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
    4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
    5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    8) Type: net start sppsvc
    9) Type: slui.exe
    10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case.

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

Ouch - that's not good, as often even a reinstall doesn't clear the error.

Please post a new MGADiag report anyhow, we can see then if anything has changed.

Also I contacted microsoft on their chat and gave him the key that the keyfinder found and he said to re enter it on the activation windows (sui 3 I think it was) so I did that and it said something about the BIOS and something missing. So he came back and said the key had never been activated and thats why it was blocked so I should call HP. I got the conversation emailed to me but apparently that did not work because its not in my inbox.

So I called HP she had me turn off the computer and turn it back on pressing F10.. She said to look under a few things and everything had all 0's and she said that was not a good thing that the BIOS had been wiped clean and would not work. They could fix it for 250.00 dollars. ha! She said she has no idea why this would have happened..

As usual, the MS Activation operators have absolutely no idea what they are doing

The current Key is Blocked because it's the OEM_SLP Key, which can only be self-activated using vertificates in the BIOS and licenses in the BIOS SLIC table - it get re-activated every time the machine boots.

That's a new one, from HP - I've not heard that excuse before. $250 for a BIOS download? - when the problem quite possibly derives from their error in the first place?

Ok - so where do we go from here?
You basically have two options - (seeing as HP have eliminated some of the others already)

    1) Live with it as it is - this means that you will have to live with the black screen and the nag (and the potential embarassment factor), and possibly lose out on updating non-security parts of the OS (you will also be blocked from installing or using Microsoft Security Essentials and IE9)
    2) Purchase a new License for Windows 7 Home Premium, and swap the Key into the current installation using the SLUI 3 procedure.

This machine is nearly 3 years old. If it's only been used around the house then it has probably got a fair amount of life left, but if it's been out and about at all, it may be going to die fairly soon.
You'll have to make a judgement call on purchasing a new license at all, and if you do decide to purchase one, then whetehr you buy a Full Retail one (more expensive now, but transferable to a new machine if/when this machine dies) or an OEM System Builder license (cheaper now, but not transferable when the machine dies). Under a strict reading of the license, you should not buy an OEM one - but as far as I know, no-one has been sued for doing so yet!

Note that there are a LOT of counterfeits out there - so here's a little advice on the subject before you buy anything!

...Nearly forgot - is ther *any* chance that you can read the COA Key?
Using a bright light and a magnifying glass can work wonders!
If you can, it would save a lot of cash, and/or aggravation.
