To ensure complete removal of Bit Defender did you run this tool?

Just a tip (something I learnt recently):

It's much better to run the command once, reboot, run it again, then upload the CBS.log rather than run it three times straight If sfc.exe can't access a file then it will schedule the replacement to happen on the next reboot, the last scan is to check the files have been replaced and to append the latest log to the end of the CBS log, which we can then take a look at. You could do it three times if you wanted, but it's extremely unlikely that you'll have any files leftover that couldn't be replaced over reboot (or have been corrupted after the reboot).

Thanks for the tip!

I think the reference to the use of the cbs logfile is in that sfc tutorial, so hopefully the OP followed it all the way through.

Yes, it found and repaired errors. After I rebooted, I did the scan again and I got the message: Windows Resource did not find any integrity violations. I ran the scan again today and the same message was displayed.

Yes, i rad the Bitdefender removal tool.

BTW, thanks for all the effort you guys have given so far. I appreciate it.
After all this you're continuing to get the above message after every uninstall attempt?

You're not by any chance booting your machine from a network resource, are you? I realize you were a little confused when Tom asked about network devices, so I would guess you're probably booting normally. But the messages you're getting are certainly unusual.

Can you try shutting down your network (modem/router/access point, all of it), reboot your machine and then try uninstalling?

The above suggestion is a shot in the dark, but I thought it may be worth a shot based on that message you're getting.

Then take a look at this (if you haven't already tried): Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled

Hey, so Silverlight's all fixed. I was able to uninstall/reinstall successfully and the update is now installed.

So it's MSE I'm still having trouble with. I was able to uninstall it using the Fix It program but when I try to reinstall, I get that same annoying message saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."

What steps did you take that allowed you to fix Silverlight?

If you're comfortable with messing with the registry (backup/restore/navigate/modify) you could try the steps in the following link. I'd suggest creating a restore point before starting. Use the F3 key to do the search specified in step 3.

I used the FixIt program.

Will anything go wrong with my laptop if i change something in the regisrty? Anyway, I can always do a system restore. I will give it a try and post the results.

* It got fixed! Thank you so much for all your help! I really appreciate it.

Oh, okay. I thought the Fixit may have only allowed you to uninstall MSE. Just making sure I understood.
