I am looking for a network (LAN or ethernet) driver, sound (audio) driver, or video (graphics) driver but cannot find it on the HP Software & Drivers Download page. Where is the driver?

"unknown error occurs set up exits" when I try to update chipset. I do not have sound/video card or NIC.
Windows stops responding and shuts down unexpectedly. When it is running it is extremely slow.

May I ask why when I requested you to take one problem at a time for us to help you troubleshoot issues, you replied that you had reinstalled Win7?

Looking at your drivers at Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv6-3225dx Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) it appears the Realtek is the Ethernet driver for a wired connection.

Normally the ethernet driver is in the installer so you should be able to get online using a wired connection to get your drivers via optional Updates.

Go to Device Manager and report back what drivers are listed under Network Adapters. If there are no drivers listed there, then what Devices are shown without drivers?

I think you guys are assuming she even knows what Device Manager is and where to find it? Perhaps give more details and she'll get the idea and follow suit?

Jenn, I would recommend to just bite the bullet and take it in and have someone install Windows for you. You can try to do it yourself but unless you're unemployed you're going to waste a lot of time. Time = money.

Otherwise, it sounds like your trouble is downloading the correct drivers from HP's site. Sometimes, there are several versions of the same model. You have to be sure to download the correct one. Then, you have to make sure you download the correct drivers for your version of Windows.

Start Menu > right click on "Computer" or "My Computer" > click "Properties" >

The window "System" should open up, if Windows 7. Look under "Windows Edition" for the name (Windows 7 Professional, etc)

Then, scroll down to "System Type", under the category "System" and see if it's 32-bit or 64-bit.

Then, combine the two and that's what you have. However, most cases, they just need to know if it's Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 7 32-bit. What edition of Windows 7 you have is rarely ever needed. Of course, in your case, you listed Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. If that's what your sticker on the bottom (laptop) or side (desktop) of your computer says then you're already headed in the right direction.

Otherwise, you can call HP or look on their support page, under your specific model or serial number and request a driver disk to be shipped to you. In your case, I would call them just to make sure you get the correct disc shipped out to you. You'll probably have to pay shipping costs but it's not bad.

Then, once you have that disc, the next time you do a fresh Windows install, you'll have the drivers ready.

Otherwise, like I said before, I'd recommend just taking it to a computer shop and say, I'll pay you $89 to reinstall my computer and transfer my old data over. That's what we charge here at our shop in SLC for a complete reinstall.
