Attachment 225691I have run a FixIt and...
Depending on which "FixIt" tool you ran - you might have already rebuilt most of the SoftwareDistribution folder.

If it was the FixIt from here...
How do I reset Windows Update components?
...then take a look at the "Let me fix it myself" section.

I've never had a issue letting the OS rebuild the entire folder...
But - I have a W7 box that is failing to install the 3 updates that you mentioned at the start of this thread and rebuilding the entire folder did not help.
    :-(
Yes it was that one and two others linked to by clicking "Get help with this error." I did get them download thanks to Derek's links and Googling them. I did not install KB2529073, it is the one that killed my USB.

I'll check to see if the USB stuff works - if I get these to install. (I'll try those links.)

Fortunately, I can RDC/RDP into this box if the keyboard/mouse go belly up.

Remote Desktop Connection - which is what Microsoft calls it
Remote Desktop Protocol - which is what other operating systems call it
I've gotten in the habit of calling out both since I'm on forums for other OSes too.

....and for the box in question, I can also VNC to it

And oddly enough, that one is supposed to fix USB issues!!

Then again that tells you how it could possibly bork USB.

Well I tried that stopping update service > deleting folders in C:Windows/SoftwareDistribution and then restarting updates in services but it is now showing no updates in updates history.

So I am just wondering if they have just been hidden or deleted - if so why are they not being downloaded?

One of those Windows gremlins, no rhyme nor reason for it.

The Jistory list has been deleted - but the updates themselves are still installed.
    Check the Installed Updates listing.
The histroy list will start populating itself anew.
