SP1 stuck at "Downloading 1 of 2 updates (0% total, 0% downloaded)"
I don't know if I should make a new post or reply to this thread. I decided on the latter because I followed the tip you gave to BriLee, Brink.
Some background history:
I have a Dell Studio 1538 given to me for repair by a friend. It wouldn't boot so I did a Windows repair from the recovery partition. That worked except it restored the machine to factory defaults dating back to 2010 when he bought the machine. When I tried Windows Update it wouldn't work. I had exactly the same symptoms as BriLee. I read your post and followed the tip which resulted in the download of 135 upates! Thanks for that!
But all is still not hunky dory because only 132 were installed. The other 3 are supposed to install when shutting down except that they don't. The machine just sits there saying it is installing 1 of 3 updates. After a 24 hour wait it still said the same thing so I manually powered off.
I used Windows Update to check for updates again and it found another 2, one of which is Windows 7 SP1. I give it the OK to download and install but it does nothing other than say "Downloading 1 of 2 updates (0% total, 0% downloaded)"
Basically I'm stuck and have no idea how to complete this. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
