    run sfc /scannow once more.

copy the response of sfc into your next post.

Here is how to "copy" from the command screen.

COPY from COMMAND SCREEN to AN APP

    You Perform once:
Ø Click on the icon in the very top left of the command shell screen |
Ø Defaults | Options tab | checkmark Quick Edit | OK button
Ø Properties | Options tab | checkmark Quick Edit | OK button

    Select area to copy:
Ø Drag the cursor to select the desired area | ENTER
Ø The selected area has been copied to the clipboard.

Paste into the Windows app, for example a forum post:
Ø Use CTRL + V to paste the selection into a Windows application.

PASTE from APP to COMMAND SCREEN
    In the app:
    Ø Make your selection.
Ø Copy Selection to Clipboard using CTRL+C

    In the Command Screen:
Ø Right-click. Paste is at the current blinking cursor point.

that tells me that your made some kind of mistake generating the sfcdetails.txt file.

Please reread the tutorial and attach the sfcdetails.txt file to your your next post.

the file is not empty, as evidenced by the post you made of a part of the cbs.log file.

    Boot up into SafeMode.

Go To an Elevated Command Prompt
Elevated command prompt = Run CMD.EXE as administrator

WIN | type CMD.EXE | do not hit Enter |
in the PROGRAMS list, right-click on CMD.EXE |
    choose "Run as administrator" |

Click on the YES button (if such appears)

WIN key = key with Microsoft log on top

    for the guru:
    WIN | type CMD.EXE | CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER key combo | ALT+Y keycombo

    Enter following, precisely as written:
    Code:
    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > %userprofile%\desktop \sfcdetails.txt
This will put the sfcdetails.txt file onto your desktop. Upload that file.

Are you shutting down your computer first?

Shutdown, not reset, but 100% powerdown
then boot straight to SafeMode and here is how:
    BOOT TO SAFE MODE
    Ø Power down your computer.
    Ø Power up your computer.
    Ø IMMEDIATELY—Start tapping the SPACEBAR
Ø When the Windows Boot Manager screen appears,
    Press the F8 key
Ø The Advanced Boot Options screen will appear.
Ø Using the down arrow key, highlight Safe Mode
    Ø Press the ENTER key.

    In shorthand,
PowerUp | Spacebar until Windows Boot Manager
    | F8 | Safe Mode | ENTER

Had a very similar problem with a Vista machine this worked perfectly

1: Go to Administrative Tools/Services, and stop the Windows Update service.
2: Then go to the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and delete ALL of the files and folders.
3: Then go back to Services and restart the Windows Update service which will recreate ALL of those folders again.
4: Then manually run the Update Service and everything should work. If you don't know how to manually start updates, reboot & Auto Updates should kick in.

I have since tried it on my 7 tester and it works fine.

To see updates though you will not see them in history - but in Installed updates
