has anyone else had this problem? about 2 days ago while shutting down my computer Windows installed 8 updates, and configured them while i turned it back on, but during the following time i shut down, it installed 8 updates again, and configured them the next time i turned it on.
basically i never stops, there are always 8 updates to install and configure, and its quite annoying that windows auto-restarts my computer if i leave it untouched for a couple of hours...

I recently installed a few updates on multiple pc's in my house, and found nothing of the such.
I would suggest doing a system restore before the updates were installed, and then retrying the updates.
Also Try running the attached program, and following these instructions, Windows Update - Reset

It would help if you stayed with your computer when large update packages are needed. My method is Down Load and let me choose. I install 2 or 3 at a time it all depends of the size reboot. Go after a few more and reboot whether ask for reboot or not. It seem to go smoother that way. I do nothing on the computer when this is going on.

I'm having exactly the same issue. 8 updates failing to install. This is the first time my system has had any Windows Update issue.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
On a related note, Microsoft Fix-it did not solve the problem.
I have a similar problem with updates.
"Explorer.exe" (not Internet Explorer!) stops working after installing the 4 following Windows Update:
- Update for Windows 7 KB2640148
- Update for Windows 7 KB2729094
- Windows 7 Service Pack 1 KB976932
- Security update KB2691442
With all other Windows 7 Update and Office 10 Updates: no problem.
Where is the common problem of these 4 updates?

Service Pack 1 should never be installed at the same time as other updates.
I suggest that your manually install each update on its own, rebooting between each - leaving SP1 until last

I have the exact same problem and I'm suspecting the problem is at Microsoft's hands since so many people seem to have problems with these 8 updates. I have deleted my updates in Windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download. It downloaded new updates but still can't install all of them at which point it returns to the old configuration, as if that would be any better. Hello Microsoft! Would you fix your retarded updates? Microsoft charges 200 Euro for a license and they can't even make proper updates...
