    Windows Update fails everytime. Error details: Code 80242014


    Hi there,

    I have a lop top with Windows 7 64 bit OS. Of lately, Windows update keeps failing to install some software updates. Here are the details of the s/w that would not install.

    Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2732500)
    Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2729094)
    Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2732487)
    Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2647753)
    Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2722913)
    Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2705219)
    Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2731847)
    Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2712808)

    Every time I login, the windows update poops up and asks me to restart the computer. After trying to restart, it fails. Next time, it does the same thing again.
    Please let me know the solution.

    Install them one by one and restart every time? It's a bit tedious but it should work.

    OldMX's suggestion works.


    I also cannot install the "8 updates"" as mentioned by ram1.

    When I install them one by one and restart each time, I finally can update all the 8 items. Thanks a lot.

    I basically have the same problem with ram1, I have a laptop with Windows 7 64 bit OS. Of lately, Windows update keeps failing to install some software updates. Here are the details of the software that would not install.

    its quite different software updates from ram1 though.
    is OldMX's suggestion will work too?
    Please let me know the solution.
    it will be more helpful for me if you could guide me step by step on how to fix this problem.
