Problem with wireless driver after latest update

Hi all.

So after updating my computer (HP pavilion dv6) last night I've run into some problems. First, my wireless driver is not working properly. Nothing comes up when I trouble shoot, I cannot enable and disable with either the device manager or the wireless button at the top of my computer.

My first instinct was to run a system restore back to yesterday but:
When I try to run System Restore I get the message "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: The data is invalid. (0x8007000D)".

This is followed by another message "There was an unexpected error: Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF) Please close System Restore and try again."

I realize this might need to be placed in a different thread. I'm new here. Everything was just working prior to the latest update.

When restore points fail, I can get a little worried. On an HP hit F2 when booting to run diagnostics and make sure everything is testing ok. I'm not saying that system restore always works, and I have seen when it doesn't work but the system is ok (hardware wise).

Next go to HP's web site and go to support/driver downloads and type in your machine and download the latest wireless driver (or do this on another PC). Next, open the start menu, right click on my computer and go to manage. Once that leads go down to Device manager, you should see your wireless with most likely a yellow "!". Right click on it and go to properties. Look for the driver tab and then a button to "Roll back driver". If you can no click it, then close that window. Right click the Wireless again and choose "uninstall". After doing this go ahead and run the driver you downloaded off HP's website, and see if that corrects the issue.

Sometimes even after installing the correct driver if the Wireless will not work is a sign of a failing motherboard, especially on an HP DV6 laptop. I have seen this a number of times. A quick fix that will slightly prolong the life of the laptop at that point is a USB wifi adapter, but if this is truly the issue, the laptop doesn't have much time left.

The most common laptops I see for repair are the DV6 and it's bigger brother DV9.
