| Windows 7: this computer is not running genuine windows (yep, me too) |

this computer is not running genuine windows (yep, me too) Hi All,
I have started getting the "this computer is not running genuine windows" error as well. There seem to be so many flavors of this issue that I feel more comfortable posting my own output for review than following the instructions of one of the many other threads.
This is an Asus desktop computer that I bought in Autumn 2010 from a well-known electronics retailer here in the States. In late 2011, I was having problems, so I took it into a local shop who completely wiped the disk and did a clean install using the key on the side of my case.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Golden got the error right, but not the solution
This problem looks as if it may be in the registry, since the file doesn't also appear in the File Mismatch area, but we need to check first. Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan.... Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories Right-click on the Command Prompt entry Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up. At the Command prompt, type CHKDSK C: /R and hit the Enter key. You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot. The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient! After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC. SFC -System File Checker - Instructions Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories Right-click on the Command Prompt entry Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up. At the Command prompt, type SFC /SCANNOW and hit the Enter key Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot. Copy the CBS.log file created to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look. Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

Is it just me or are more and more win 7 machine becoming deactivated in the last few months than normal?
(conspiracy time!)

It's possibly because of the gravitational effect of 'Solved' threads
The numbers in the MS WGA forums actually seem to have dropped - and the ones that do get posted seem to be the knottier ones. | My System Specs | | Computer type Laptop System Manufacturer/Model Number Asus K52F OS Win 7 x64 Home Premium (and x86 VirtualBox VM) CPU i3 370M Motherboard Asus Memory 8GB - finally :) Graphics Card it's an i3, dude! Thanks! I have not gotten the warning since rebooting. But, there were corrupt files reported when running SFC, and still a tampered file warning in MGADiag. Info below...

I was kinda expecting that this would be the case
There are NO errors that I can find in the SFC/CBS log - which means that it's almost certainly either a permissions problem, or a registry problem.
Let's check the permissions first...
Please open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and run the following commands.... DIR C:\Windows\slc.* /S ICACLS C:\Windows\System32\slc.* /T ICACLS C:\Windows\SysWOW64\slc.* /T ATTRIB C:\Windows\System32\slc.* /S ATTRIB C:\Windows\SysWOW64\slc.* /S Here are some instructions to make life easier 1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt. 2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once. 3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response. | My System Specs | | Computer type Laptop System Manufacturer/Model Number Asus K52F OS Win 7 x64 Home Premium (and x86 VirtualBox VM) CPU i3 370M Motherboard Asus Memory 8GB - finally :) Graphics Card it's an i3, dude!
