Windows 7: cannot update (KB2698365)

cannot update (KB2698365)
Hi, I am having same trouble ( cannot update (KB2698365) and also feel that Ive tried all that I am capable of. Updates since the this work okay , just cannot get this one to update successfully. Downloaded, upacked and ran the packs as per Tom's instruction but still sem stuck.
I have attached the log, hope anyone can help.

I downloaded this last night and got an error about it not finding epp.msi. It appears that it looks in the wrong place for the file for 64bit. I found it in this folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\Backup\amd64.

Hi Pendaws, thanks for replying. Not sure what you mean with the download etc. My pc is 32 bit. Any thoughts that may help. I don't understand what the log data is all about but it does'nt read well! ( I think )

Hello Alfronso56 and welcome to the forums

The fix for the other user that I was helping was specific to his system and you shouldn't have downloaded it. This is my mistake, I should have specified this in my instructions for that user, I'll amend them now. I'm really unsure whether the SURT checks the manifests before replacing them, if it does then we're okay here, but if not then we might be in trouble because the files that you downloaded were for x64 computers - you have x86. I think it's best to be safe and do a system restore to before you installed that package:

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Hi Tom, please don't apologise, I just jump in to quick... bad habit. Thank you so much for helping out , it is appreciated.

I have run the packs as per your instruction and past beow the outcome, looks like some fixes happened but I havent tried the update as yet.

Hi Tom, no good I'm afraid. The errror code is different (8024200D) but the update failure code the same (KB2698365).

Any thoughts on what to do?

Hi Alfonso (oops, I've just realised that I've been spelling your name wrong this whole time, sorry! )

My apologies for not mentioning that 8024200D will arise after that fix. I have very recently updated my post template to include instructions to fix 8024200D, but I must have made that last post of mine before the update. I've copied and pasted it here:

You will probably be shown the error code 0x8024200D after performing this fix, if so, please download and install the update from this link. It must be downloaded using Internet Explorer.
