Errors when installing updates on Windows Ultimate x64

    Hi All,

Like the poster in this thread I'm getting errors everytime I try and install a windows update. It goes as far as the configuring updates startup screen but then fails on 15 %.

Some of the errors I get are error 80071a90 and error 630. I've tried running the microsoft fix it tool, restoring the .net framework to factory settings and updateing etc but all to no avail.

I'm not sure it makes a difference but Windows is running on Virtualbox running on OSX Mountain Lion on my macbook air.

I've also ran the MDAG tool and this is a copy of the report:

You are aware that the Windows License here is an MSDN one??

Our company is part of Microsoft's BizSpark program so we have access to Microsoft software using MSDN licenses. AFAIK that wouldn't cause any of the problems that are occurring - although i'm open to correction there.

    No - just checking :)
Many times, I see MGADiag reports with MSDN licenses that were purchased on eBay - and are eventually blocked by MS as the sale of MSDN licenses is prohibited, except as part of the subscription. The standard of these counterfeits is extremely high.

That makes sense. For us the BizSpark program has been great. Doubt they would have inactivated our licenses as other software such as office is running and updating perfectly :)

    Thanks for the suggestion Noel.

There's no indication of any problems in the report - usually when such licenses are blocked, you'll get specific errors in three places (but often not until the activation grace period runs out)
I see the last time the validation status changes was 23rd June - you may want to confirm the status using Internet Explorer 32-bit, at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate (MS has managed to break validation for all other browsers, currently!)

Just ran it, brought me to a page saying validation in progress for about 10 sec before going to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/val...eName=validate this page. Trying to install the updates again and will let you know if it worked.

If you were offered IE9 and Windows Live or MSE, then you passed :)
