That is a security update for DirectShow, released in January 2012.
It's the first time you've mentioned that update number?
What is the actual error code if you right-click on its entry inthe Update History list and select Viiew detials??

My second post in the thread, that error was the first one listed. Well, the update is what I listed there, not the error.

Error code is - 8024200D

There is a get help with this, but I'm on my lunch break, not home and can't do this now. Their "help with this" hasn't worked for me yet anyway.

What is directshow?

Thanks

Windows Update error 8024200d

If you receive Windows Update error 8024200d, it can mean that an update did not finish downloading or installing. The System Update Readiness Tool for Windows can correct some conditions that cause this error. To use the tool, follow these steps:
  1. <LI class=step>Go to the Knowledge Base article webpage. In the Information for advanced users section, find the Windows edition and system type of your computer, and then click the link to download the System Update Readiness Tool. To find your edition of Windows, see View your computer information.
  2. Run Windows Update again.
    Note
    • Typically, the scan takes 15 minutes or less, but it can take longer on some computers. The Windows Update progress bar is not updated during the scan, and progress can appear to stop at 60% complete. This behavior is expected. The scan is still running and you shouldn't cancel the update.
If the System Update Readiness Tool doesn't fix the problem, you can find other possible solutions in this article .
If you continue to see this error, see this automatic troubleshooter on the Microsoft Support website, or go to the Microsoft Answers website for more assistance.

Error codes this applies to:
  • <LI class=listItem>WindowsUpdate_8024200d
  • 0x8024200d

DirectShow is part of the DirectX graphics package - from what I can make out the error implies that the download is either corrupt or incomplete.
You should clear the SoftwareDistribution folder _

Open an Elevated Command Prompt
at teh prompt, run the following commands
NET STOP WUAUSERV
REN C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD
NET START WUAUSERV

reboot
the do a manual scan for updates and see what happens

After 1st prompt and enter:

System Error 5 has occurred

Access denied.

After 2nd prompt:

Access is denied.

After last prompt:

The requested service has already been started. For more help type NET HELPMSG 2182

So I did that and it told me that the service has been started. Now I'll do a reboot and a scan, but I don't think 1) I did what you asked and 2) it went the way it should have if I did.

Well I read somewhere that if you use the elevated command prompt that it opens to windows 32 and not C users. I went to start>accessories>command prompt and it still opens to the c user thing. I did the commands you wanted me too and I had the exact same results.

Please don't apologize for not responding quickly. I'm aware that the guy behind your screen has a life.

You MUST follow the instructions on how to run in an elevated prompt..

1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

When I went into update there was already an optional listed. I checked anyway and there was nothing new. It installed the update. I then unhid the hidden one (didn't know if I was supposed to or not) but that still hasn't installed.

Have you heard of Speedy PC Pro? Never mind .. now I'm livid. I download the thing, It scans, finds errors but naturally won't fix anything until I register!

The image is for you to make sure I did it right. Plus something looks off that I wanted to show you.

Uninstall Seedy PC Pro immediately, please - it's nothing but a glorified registry cleaner which WILL break your system given half a chance.
What update was it you unhid?

run the following commands and post the results.

DIR C:\Windows\sdold
DIR C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
