Tom Mucho thanks for this, it resolved all the errors in the checksur.log! I was able to run windows update and it detected a new version of windows update and said that it was going to close and restart, but it did not restart on its own. I had to leave for work at that point so will see what is next when I get home. But at least it didn't give me that blasted 800B0100 error.
I still can't understand how this happened. These files have a date of 6/2/2012, so that means they were downloaded as soon as I turned my PC on here, so how on earth did they get corrupted like that?
Also, I wonder why none of the fix programs just simply go out and retrieve new copies of these corrupted files instead of just putting in the log "repair files unavailable"?
I need to remove those additional languages, as I don't need them anymore. Only had them so I could run localized versions of some MMO's.
Once again, many many thanks for this, will let you know if anything else goes wrong. I also have another PC that I moved as well, but haven't set it up as yet, so wonder if it will have the same issue. Was there something odd about this update to Windows Update that could have caused it by the machines being offline for so long?

Hi Peter,
No worries, I'm glad that the problem has been resolved - well, most of it anyway. Let me know how the restart goes.
I'm not sure what caused this corruption, but it could be a sign of a faulty hard disk. It might be worth running a chkdsk command: Disk Check
I guess it isn't a large enough problem for MS to spend the resources developing something like that, and I'd have nothing to do!
Your other PC should be fine, problems like these aren't specific to certain updates. They can happen at any time and to any file. There are far too many 800B0100 (and 800B090) errors out there for it to be coincidence though, there has to be something wrong in the updating process. As I said, there shouldn't be any errors, but you know where to find me and Noel if there are

Each update for Windows 7 SP1 currently (probably) contains at least 4 versions of each file, to be able to cope with variations in the OS.
To create a universal fixit would take a 12GB download

Hi Noel and Tom,
Well, no joy still. Now I am unable to start the Windows Update Service, I get an error 193:0xc1, the event log states that Windows Update is not a valid win32 application.
How much worse can a simple installation of the windows update agent be?
Looking at the Windows update log, it looks like part of the update failed after I was finally able to clear up the errors in the checksur.log.
This is what happened after running windows update after loading the files you gave me and running the SUR tool.

That seems to have hosed windows update and I cannot start it anymore. I did run the sfc /scannow and it found a bunch of files that it said failed to hash. Oddly enough it seems to be all the files that were part of the original problem.
for example, there are more.

Also, I can no longer run the SUR program, it fails with a server execution failure.
Windows update could not be installed because of error 2148007941 "Server execution failed" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wusa.exe" "D:\User Documents\Peter Voveris\Downloads\Windows6.1-KB947821-v24-x64.msu" ")

My goodness, I hope I haven't scared you both off with my current situation?
I had an idea that may work to resolve these issues. It seems to be related to the update programs and the languages I have installed, I have a laptop with Ultimate x64 as well, could I install the other languages on it, then copy all the necessary windows update files from the laptop to the pc, or will that cause more problems?
Cheers,

It's been 'one of those days' today!
How many languages do your have installed on this machine?/
I do know that it does tend to complain if there's more than (I think) 10 MUI languages installed - how many do you have? | My System Specs | | Computer type Laptop System Manufacturer/Model Number Asus K52F OS Win 7 x64 Home Premium (and x86 VirtualBox VM) CPU i3 370M Motherboard Asus Memory 8GB - finally :) Graphics Card it's an i3, dude!
