Win 7 Build 7601 activation issues

Having issues with my copy of Win 7 Home Premium. I've been running it fine since August , the computer was built by me and I installed a copy of Win 7 home premium 64bit OEM from a local retailer. Today, after uninstalling Norton Anti-Virus and installing AVG I received the message in the bottom right corner you're probably familiar with, "Win 7 Build 7601 this copy of Windows is not genuine".

This IS a genuine copy of Win 7, but trying to re-activate it's not taking the product key. I even went as far as purchasing a second for the same software and it's not taking that key either.

    below is the MGADiag info

As usual Norton has HOSED another system. More then likely the Uninstalling of Norton has screwed up something on your system.

Did you get the Symantec/Norton uninstall tool from their website and or follow all the instructions on their website to properly remove the POS software.

Also in the text you posted it says the Windows License type is Retail. Instead of OEM. That could be the problem as you are using an OEM key.

But in the end it was more then Likely the uninstalling of Norton that screwed it up.

I believe I just went into the programs and feature in the control panel, found Norton, clicked and it opened up Norton.

After a few ads and a couple "We're sorry to see you go..." pop-ups it uninstalled and I proceeded to install AVG.

Even if I didn't go via the control panel, I never went to their website, I was unaware I had to do so.

Sounds like Norton has a bit of reputation...

Could that be that the second key I received (and the latest I tried) was purchased directly from Microsoft? The box I have here (The first key) isn't a full, shiny-looking retail box.

    Yes then it could.

You could try doing a Repair install. It may or may not fix the problem.

I'll have a go, and report back if problems are still present!

Also, since the disc I have is an OEM version, will I need a Win 7 ISO for the standard instillation disc?

You may. Although it seems Win 7 is a little less picky on what media you use and is more dependent on the key used.

You can get a ISO of the retail Win 7 version key you have from My Digital Life. Sorry don't have a direct link to it.

Let's concentrate on the MGA results, please - Much as I hate Norton, it's often NOT responsible for this particular error.

There is almost certainly NO NEED for a repair install!
