Well, I spent about 3hours going over my update, and CBS logs, and the first thing I would like to say is, I have a new-found respect for the MVP and Community Contributors they have certainly earned those badges!
I have gone over logs before, but not with this intensity and for them to do this day in, and day out takes a certain kind of stamina.
I stopped about 4hours ago, and my eyes still hurt a bit, and my brain isn't quite as mushy.
Okay, here's what I found out.
Yesterday when I went to download and install the updates I accumulated eight error codes most of them dealing with permissions.
As I went down the log the order in which the stop errors occurred seem to suggest this course of action.
Fix the problem with Microsoft Windows Update that is not working and System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008
Should take care of these errors 80242013 - 0x80190194 - 80070005
These three are about proxies: 80072ee7 – 0x8024402C - 0x00000000
That made me think about whether or not my LAN settings were set to Automatically Detect, and they were in IE9, but I have been having trouble lately with FF15.0.1 not responding so I checked its settings and it was on Auto detect, but I had the option there to set it for No Proxies.
After I made the change, and restarted FF I haven't had any problems with it.
Error code 0x8024402C when you try to install updates on Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites
By the way, for the FF users: Mozilla 'temporarily' pulls Firefox 16 to address security flaw
These two were tied together: 0x240001 0x8024000B, and Noel, I had the same restart glitch you had, it may be tied to this error. 0x8024000B Windows Update error 8024000B
The CBS log also contained errors such as:
Code:

I'll have to go over these later.

SIW2, I'll look into doing it that way.
Layback Bear I'm like you, I do not multi-task when I'm updating.
