Windows Update failing with Error codes: 8007371B, 800736B3, 80070246

    Windows7 Professional x64, SP1
    8GB RAM, Intel Core i5
    170GB free space on SSD.
    Office 2010
    Samsung Galaxy Note
    KIES

    Hi

My Windows 7 (x64) PC has been working fine until recently. The trouble started with attempting to use my Samsung Galaxy Note and sync using Samsung's KIES using a USB connection.

It was a bit glitchy but I finally got the thing to sync. But today it didnt want to know and kept saying that my phone had "No SIM card installed", which is not true as the phone was picking up a mobile phone signal fine.

In Task Manager I discovered a thing called TrustedInstaller.exe which is persistently taking up 23 to 25% of my processor. I looked online and discovered that it was the correct size and that it was something to do with Windows Updates. So ran Windows Update and discovered that it wanted to install about 11 patches. This is odd because I run Windows Update every 1 or 2 weeks.

    Error code: 8007371B
    Error code: 800736B3

But when I ran Windows Update two things failed. So I executed a Restore Point to 2 days ago and I ran Window Update again. Same problem except that now there are THREE error codes:

    Error code: 8007371B
    Error code: 800736B3
    Error code: 80070246

So this time I followed the windows error code links and although there was nothing describing my error codes, I ran Microsoft FixIt, and did Windows Update again. Still the same problem.

So then I download ms System Update Readiness Tool (for Win 7 x64) - KB947821

    CLUE:
When I try to do the Windows Update, it doest seem to even download anything and gets stuck at "Downloading 3 updates 0 KB total, 0% complete."

I'm thinking that something is must be wrong if it thinks it needs to download "0 KB" (!!)

    - Any thoughts?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been looking for this error for a long time now. I need to do a write up on it :) I'm going out now, but I'll post back later.

If you compress them first, you can usually get a 10-20MB log file into a 2MB zip file :)

You've got some serious corruption buddy, look how many bitflips there were:

    (f) CSI Manifest Missing 0x00000002 amd64_microsoft-windows-authentication-authui_31bf385ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514ßnone_6a1982860c°76c38.manifest amd64_microsoft-windows-authentication-authui_31bf385ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514ßnone_6a1982860c°76c38

That's registry corruption as well, not file corruption. The file is probably there, it's just that the registry is making Windows Update look in the wrong place. I'll have to have a think about this one!

Yikes - that dont sound good. Should I run Scandisk and/or defrag?

Btw, I am using a SSD - could that be to blame?

Re the log files, OK I tried .zip format but it was over 1GB... So I have compressed the whole 16GB using 7Zip in to a .7z file (attached) but this forum software didnt like it. So I zipped the .7z file into a .ZIP format - see attached. Sounds bonkers I know but it seemed to work.

Just a thought if I may. Because all those CSI are all bad at the same time could it be a infection causing it.
