How to start windows update in serices

    Hi All,

Can anyone guide me to resolve my windows update error.
When I run check for updates I am getting an error message
'Windows Update cannot cuurently check for updates , because the service is not running. You may need to restart the computer'.
I did couple of times, not resolved. Went through forums and read about the services.msc. But it is not really running in services.msc. Can someone guide me to start the windows update in services.
I am attaching the scrrenshots also for you reference.
    Kindly help me.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt and run the following commands - post the results....

    NET START WUAUSERV
    NET START BITS
    NET START BFE

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

NOTE: there's a good chance that your system has at one time been infected with a major malware - and there's no point in attempting to fix it if the malware is still present!
What Anti-Virus is currently installed? Is it up-to-date?
What other AV's have been installed on this machine?

While waiting for a response to the above :-
Please boot to Safe Mode with Networking, and download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.
    Reboot to Normal mode

    Delete everything it finds

Still unable to start Windows update

    Hi NoelDP,

    Sorry for the delayed response.
Thanks for your guidance. I have attached the response for your review. And also I have attached one more screenshot of which I encounter during start up (I thought it could be useful).
I have downloaded the malware bytes and it detected 8 items, I deleted them also.
I am currently using Kaspersky 2012 Anti-virus (just for the two days). Previously I was using the free version of AVG Anti-virus.

It's highly likely that you either have now, or recently had, a severe virus infection.
There is no point in attempting to fix the WU problem until you are certain that the system is now free of infection.
I would recommend running the TDSSKiller download from Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
    See if it finds anything.
I'll work up a fix while you're doing that.

I have downloaded and ran the TDSSKiller. But it didn't find anything.

Good - we'll assume for the moment that you've gotten rid of everything nasty.

I've attached a small file - please download it and save it to your desktop.
once saved, right-click on it and select Extract all - save to the default location
The foder should open in Windows explorer, with a single file in it - wubitsbfe.reg
right-click on the file, and select Merge
you'll get a couple of warnings - accept them
you should get a success message.
    close all windows, and reboot.
    now test Windows Updates.

Thanks a lot Noel. It started working after following your instructions. Though I am seeing the initial start up error message, Windows update is functioning.

    Thank you so much.

That looks to me like the remains of a piece of malware - the malware itself has been cleaned out, but not the shortcut to it.

Open MSCONFIG and find the link that references it, and disable it there - wait a few days, and see if anything falls over, then you can delete the link completely
