Intel Corporation - Display - Intel(R) HD Graphics - UPDATE FAILURE??

Hi...I'm running Win7 Home Premium (64-bit), 8Gb RAM, with the chip:
    Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
    Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology

Graphics is not dedicated and is handled via this Intel chip.
During Windows Updates, MS ones download perfectly.

However, I also get an additional 'optional' update named: 'Intel Corporation - Display - Intel(R) HD Graphics'

This has never succeeded in downloading.
The MS explanation is always the same: possible interruption from my connection to their server...yet never any interruption when I download MS updates at exactly the same time!

After that, I get the usual 'download Mr Fix It' software which proves itself to be utterly useless in helping me find why the download is not succeeding.

I run Avast anti-virus and Zone Alarm firewall...but I can't figure out if they are somehow preventing the download.

I'd appreciate any help on this....

    Many thanks

Download the graphics driver manually from Intel Download Center and install it.
    Select a product family= Graphics
Select a product line= As per your computer.
Select a product name= As per the specification of your computer.

And reset your windows update, too.

Hi Arc...many thanks for taking time to reply.
However, at Intel Download Center, I'm not sure which to select as below.
Also at Product Name, since no choice is given, then not sure if all will go through anyway.
    Can you advise further?

    Product Family:
    Embedded Components & Flash Memory
    OR:
    Graphics

    Select Product Line
    Desktop Graphics Drivers
    OR:
    Intel Embedded Graphics Drivers

    Select A Product Name:
'Choose One'...but doesn't give any choice at all! My computer was custom built anyway

    Many thanks

Hi kwil, let me try ....

    • Product Family: Graphics (As I have said earlier)
    • Product Line: Desktop Graphics Drivers (assuming yours a desktop)
    • Select A Product Name: Click on the Start Button, type "dxdiag" (without quotes) in the search bar and click the resulted link. In will open the "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" window. Click on the "display" tab, and notice what is mentioned against the "Chip Type". Get that one.

    Does it work there?

    Hi Arc...many thanks again.
However, running 'dxdiag' etc, Chip Type = Intel (R) HD Graphics Family
When I go to Intel site and select as you advise, Product Line doesn't list the above.
Closest it does list is: Intel Core Processors with Intel HD Graphics...
    Any thoughts?

You may go for it, if it is the closest one.

Anyway, there should be an auto driver detect utility .... Intel® Driver Update Utility.
    You may have a try.

    Hi Arc...
Was a bit wary of trying the 'closest' - not sure what would happen!
So logged on to Intel Update Utility and yes, it stated product found: Intel Processor Graphics 2000 and that there was an updated driver.
I downloaded and ran the 'exe' file: however, window popped up saying:
'Failed to install one or more device drivers'

I temporarily disabled my internet connection + antivirus + firewall and tried to run the downloaded update again...Same result...grrrr!

Clearly something's not quite right...and overall, I'm having no issues with my system...Remember, my initial Windows Update said the Intel update was 'optional'
Nevertheless, I'd like to know why the hell this update is causing such a problem.

    Any further ideas...from anyone?

    upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.

    1. Click on the start button
    2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
    3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
    4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
    5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

Seeing it, we will have some better idea what might be going wrong there.
