Windows 7 Build 7601 Not Genuine Error Fix

I have read several threads on this topic and attempted to do many of the fixes recomended. I have been at this all day and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Earlier tonight I got the "FBI Money Pack Virus" on my laptop, I ran superantispyware, and malware bytes...removed all files they suggested. Rebooted to get back to work and got the Windows 7 not genuine warning at bottom right. Re entered my key, got told it was not valid, Tried to run MGA Diagnostics and when my report came up I intended to past and ask for help and instead I got an error window when I hit copy

Failed to create output files, hr=0x80070002. Please contact support

So I am stuck.

I am in the middle of a LARGE project and need answers if anyone has them.

All I know from what I have read is that the error happened sometime last night around 1:00am, the TTS error code is NOT from most current reboot.

I keep getting MSE pop-ups telling me Win 7 did not pass genuine validation etc, and now I keep getting a "you may be a victim of software Counterfeiting" pop up.

I know my version is legit, my key has worked on several "wipe and re-dos" I would wipe it again if I still had my disks, but unfortunetly....one cant always take ones boxes when one gets a divorce....I am sure anything that looked important...is now toast lol

It tells me "This key does not appear to be a valid key" and tries to send me to Microsoft to validate, which they don't, and it tells me I need to select a version I which to purchase. My key is valid, I'm getting it from the package that came with my software.

Not neccesarily - this is a retail licence of Windows 7, so the product key accompanies the box in which the install media came.

What was the original version of Windows on this laptop?

Okay, so after comparing the key I was given from my "repair company" who originally sold me the software/ computer with the key on the battery cover they...go figure...wait for it....DON'T match...this machine originally had Win 7 home premium and now has win 7 pro...how do I go BACK to what was on there when I bought it. I don't mind going back to Home Premium, I have home premium on my wifes laptop and don't mind it. But now I'm pissed that the "repair company" upgraded the machine in the first place. He told me the "walmart software" I was using was crap and offered the "free upgrade" when he installed a new har drive for me a year ago, that's what confuses me, its worked just fine this long...anyway. Now I guess I need help going back to where I started and I don't have install disks for any of it

You'd have to reformat and reinstall using legitimate media - either an ISO download, or the manufacturer's Recovery media.

You can go to this link Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life and get the ISO of Home Premium (be sure to get the correct version 32-bit or 64-bit). You can then burn it to a DVD (no more than 4X) and install Windows 7. Use the tutorial that Golden gave you above to aid in installation. When you are happy with the installation, enter your legal Product Key and you will have a Genuine Win 7.
