Windows Update won't update, stuck at 0%

My windows update does not like to load! It takes a very long time and sometimes causes explorer to crash! When I checked, I had 92 updates to install. When I click download and install, it would freeze and stay there for a long time. I tried to use the Fix it application, however that gets stuck on "Checking Online for Updates" as well! What should I do? I also tried to update in safe mode, but it wouldn't let me. Thanks in advance.

Hello NoisE and welcome to Seven Forums.

With that many updates to install, I would disable automatic updates and manually install just a few at a time. I personally don't do more than 5 at a time but you could try 10. Keep track of the KB numbers for each update in each group. After installing the first group, restart the computer and make sure everything is working. If it is, install the next group and restart. Continue doing this until all updates are installed.

If a particular group fails to install correctly, uninstall those particular updates by looking for their KB numbers. Then try to install just one at a time and reboot after each one. They'll either all install OK or you'll know which update is causing the problems. Leave it for last and install the next group.

Yes, this is a much slower process but it usually results in a much better update experience.

I had only 4 updates trying to install but it froze again. I left it for a good 3 hours and no progress has been made. Is there a way to download packs of updates manually and have it install then?
