Error Code 80070643, unable to update or perform system restore

I am trying to rectify the error with windows update.
Everytime I try to update it tells me it is checking for updates...
Then "To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update. Your automatic Updating settings will not change."
I click Install now and get "Window could not search for new updates"
An error occured while checking for new updates for your computer.
    Error(s) Found
Code 80070643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

This problem first came to light a year ago when I downloaded a windows update that was corrupt.
It forced the computer to loop the autocheck upon boot and could only be started in safe mode or by canelling the check.
After looking through the forums I found an interim fix which disabled the autocheck and since have always recieved the message upon restarting "Autocheck program not found".
I naturally thought this issue would be resovled in the next update and or a future fix.
I had to go away for work at the start of this year and when I got back and windows updated it still had the autocheck message.
Recently I have been unable to update at all due to the aforementioned error.
The simplest soultion it would seem would be to do a system restore, this I have tried however every possible point seems to have a corrupt file on it.
I ran a scan using Malwarebytes and found nothing.
I don't want to format as the programs came pre installed and that would mean taking to back to the shop.
    Any help would be appreciated!

No I cannot uninstall a windows update patch.
When I try I get this message "An error has occurred. Not all of the Updates were successfully uninstalled."
The picture you posted, yes I do see that and click on "Install now".
It then comes up with another window "Windows could not search for new updates".
"An error occured while checking for new updates for your computer."
    "Errors Found :

    This didn't fix the issue.
I still get a window similar to this as the end state http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/9637/29520315.png.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type
    CHKDSK C: /R
    and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -

    then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
    At the Command prompt, type
    SFC /SCANNOW
    and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Copy the CBS.log file created to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

To NoelDP, I ran the CHKDSK and SFC scan.
The Elevated Command Prompt window stated after the SFC scan:

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beggining verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any intergrity violations.

To Kaktussoft, I apologise it was a "similar" window, no Updates succeeded sorry that was as close as I could get to the window I see.
The log I can still post, although it is quite large if you still require it?

please run sfc/scannow again and post cbs.log again afterwards. It did fix things and I want to know if it's fine now.

    Also post windowsupdates.log

All the action in the CBS log was in housekeeping tasks rather than repairs - there were no errors reported or fixed.

    windowsupdates.log - https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resi...H4pKnFrScxdjS0

    To Kaktussoft:
Too large to post in quick reply, so uploaded to skydrive if that's ok?

    To NoelDP:

"All the action in the CBS log was in housekeeping tasks rather than repairs - there were no errors reported or fixed."
    Replying to Kaktussoft or myself?
