Windows 7 is not genuine

    i don't use a registry cleaner, I would probably mess something up.
    Maybe the computer needed to be updated? It did a bios update as soon as everything was working again

    Good - NEVER use a registry cleaner, as it really knows less about your registry than you do!

    BIOS updates don't normally come through on Windows updates?

    It more or less came through on my HP's update. It was just bundled with tons of windows 7 updates

    It may have come through the HP updater - but I never heard of one coming through normal Windows updates.
    Whatever - so long as things are working properly (still!) that's what matters :)
