    Windows 7 is not genuine

I bought my HP laptop from Best Buy with windows 7 already installed. It is now claiming that windows 7 is not genuine and needs to be reactivated. I don't have a product key to activate it since it came already activated. I don't really know what to do. Is there any information I should give you guys to help out? My windows 7 version is actually home premium 64 bit.

    Thanks in advance.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

    https://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/Hardware.aspx

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

You have a Trusted Store Tamper.
This is often caused by malware - or by overactive AV's! (Which AV are you using?)

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
    net start sppsvc
    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

Okay did that. I wasn't sure if any window was supposed to pop up after running "CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
    net start sppsvc
    slui.exe"

No window popped up after running that, But I'm not sure if any window was supposed to. It did seem successful however I am still getting told that windows 7 is still not genuine.

Hmmm - please change the Key to the one on the COA sticker, using the following procedure

    Click on the Start button
    in the Search box, type

    SLUI 3

    and hit the Enter key

you should get the Change Product Key wizard popup - follow the instructions.

Once complete, post back with a new MGADiag report, and details of any error messages.

The report now shows nothing wrong - the timestamp on the Tamper hasn't changed (a good sign).

What Anti-Virus are you using? - what other security software do you have installed?

Okay, because you said everything appeared to be fine, I restarted my computer and nothing seems to be wrong anymore. I am not getting the constant message that windows 7 is not genuine and that watermark on the screen saying the same disappeared.

I use Windows Security Essentials. Is that good? Or is there a better one?

Also, Why would windows 7 suddenly claim to be not genuine? What went wrong. If it is simple to explain, it would be interesting to know!

thank you so much for your help!

Here is the system info again just in case!

    That looks fine.
I suspect that the problem may have arisen because of overzealous cleanup somewhere.

Are you using any form of Registry 'cleaner' or 'optimiser'?

MSE is fine - it's what I use myself, with no problems.
