-231- indicates an MSDN installation. Has this licence been sold to you? I'll ask Noel to have a look at this.

Is my Copy of Win 7-64 Legal?

Thank you very much.

What does "MSDN" mean?

Yes, it was sold to me. It's a "Retail" version.

The Key in use is an MSDN Key from a not-for-resale MSDN account.
Unless you are an MSDN subscriber, you are not entitled to use the Key – and whoever sold it to you was not entitled to do so.
You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key (all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

Please read the following posts.... .................................

and

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

Also - have a look at this video....

MSDN is the Microsoft Developer Network - in the case of such keys it's used as a shorthand that also covers TechNet, BizSpark, MSDNAA and other subscription services offered by MS
MSDN subcribers pay a subscription for full access to (almost) all of MS's software - the value of which is consdierably more than the subscription - so that they can develop products that run on Windows,
Since 2008/9 counterfeiters have taken to buying subscriptions and then selling the accompanying Keys - at massive profit. MS has been clamping down on this ever since, with the result that the standard TechNet account now offers only two Keys, where it used to offer 5, and I believe the number of activations has been dropped as well. TechNet licenses are also now subscription-based and expire with the subscription.

I read the links you gave me. Looks like i have been scammed! Or, I should say the person who gave it to me as a gift several months ago. I just finally installed it.
I have heard about the counterfeiting, but did not realize the magnitude.

Thank you very much.
