Windows 7 update and error code: 80070003

    Hi all,

I'm facing with this problem today.
I have two updates available from Windows Update:

    1) Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2687311)
    2) Update for Microsoft Office suites (KB2596848)

I tried to download them but I got the error code: 8007003 as soon as the downloading start.

I don't have the Office Package but I have the viewer versions installed of them.

I'm assuming that I need to install these updates since the checking process shown them as to be installed.

    Any idea?

    Thank you

The 0x80070003 error is 'path not found' - the question then obviously, which path? - and why is it missing?

An MGADiag report may help diagnosis...

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

    @alyraver

    - The troubleshooter didn't provide any help for this issue.

    - I've downloaded The "System Update Readiness Tool" (Windows6.1-KB947821-v24-x86.msu) for my platform (Visat & Seven), but it didn't work because it said "not applicable for your computer".

...in that case you downloaded the wrong one - you need the one for Windows 7 x64 (64-bit)
what you downloaded was teh 32-bit version.

Please download the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Method 2)

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your public SkyDrive so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.

The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.

You're right, I haven't noticed the "x86" string. I followed what the downloaded web page suggested to me. I'll try it.

    Thank you

    @NoelDP,

    - downloaded the tool for x64 bit version.
    - executed it.
    - it said the installation was ok.
    - I ran again Windows Update.
    - The issue was still there. Windows Update wasn't able to install the two KBs above. The error code was the same.

    About the log file:

I have no folder named CBS under the path suggested from your tool, that is:
    • %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    • %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log
Note: in my system, there is no Logs folder, instead there is a LogFiles one. I'm assuming they are the same.

    Any other idea?

    Thanks

EDIT: Sorry, I have read too fast the instructions. I read %SYSTEMROOT% as System32 folder. I think I found the right path under \Windows\Logs\CBS\.
This is the SkyDrive link for CheckSUR.log file (there is no issues inside it):
    https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resi...INEBJ-IDAg8DWU

Let me know if you have problem seeing the file, this is the first time I'm using SkyDrive.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    CHKDSK C: /R

    and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
    then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    SFC /SCANNOW

    and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.
