Windows 7: Windows does not update

Windows does not update

Hi,
I recently built a new computer that is running windows 7. Unfortunately it does not install updates using windows auto-update. It gets stuck on either "installing updates" or "downloading updates" - It says it is still doing it but it goes on for ever. The windows has SP-1 on the disk. The specs are:
i3 3220
Gigabyte H61MA-D3V motherboard
XFX hd 6870
OCZ ZT 550w
OCZ Vertex 2E 120gb sata II SSD
GEIL dragon DDR3 1333 2*4gb RAM
HDD and CD burner in an Aerocool QS case.

I have tried: Microsoft fixit, wiping ssd and re installing windows, changed RAM, checked that system time is correct, installing OS on hdd and running with as few components as possible but none of these have worked. Can anybody suggest anything? Any comments will be greatly appreciated and don't hesitate to ask for more information!
Thanks

I have also had a few crashes. I have attached the dump files and I hope it means something to one of you! Thanks very much,

Hi ivorito,

No need to apologise, those instructions didn't exist when you posted this thread! It would be a bit unfair to blame you for that!

Okay, thanks for keeping me posted.

Ahaha okay then.
Step:
1 - it installed fine but the problem was still there
2 - concluded that "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"
3 - I do not get error codes there, the install never stops - I have to stop it by holding down the power button/reset button.
4 - Attached

I hope this gives you enough information to solve it but please ask if there is any thing more you would like to know.
Thanks

Hi ivorito,

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, it wasn't very conclusive. Could you generate an MGADiag log for me please?

I have also attatched an image showing a few of the bad updates. They don't seem particularly connected to me but you may be able to make sense of it. Thanks

At the moment it is not making progress with KB2719857 - the Installing updates bar just isnt moving.

I have been suggested by someone else to
Quote:
Type "services.msc" without the quotes into the start/run bar and hit enter, when the Services window launches, find the service called Background Intelligent Transfer. Stop this service by right clicking and selecting Stop. Next, find the "Windows Update" service and stop that too.

Navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and delete everything inside the SoftwareDistribution folder.

Go back to the Services window and start BITS and WU, reboot machine
Would you suggest this?
