    Windows 7 SP1 install failure, error 80070002 800f0826

    Hi guys,

I have had this problem ever since SP1 was available and never was able to install it. The idea of doing a clean install doesn't interest me so I have avoided SP1 till now. But now the new AMD catalyst drivers require SP1 and was wondering if this problem was ever solved.

I remember when Windows 7 Service Pack 1 was released, there was a problem with registry cleaning and stuff like driver cleaners because of which couldn't install SP1. I tried a lot of solution like replacing missing files etc but didn't work then.

So I tried now but am still not able to install it. During the update process on startup it stops around 10% and fails.

I have run SFC /SCANNOW(no integrity violations) and the cbs log is attached.

I ran the Update readiness tool and the checksur log is clean.

I ran the MGADiag as well and have attached its output.

Heres the old thread way back in April 2011.

Ok. I tried the standalone SP1 install package but it failed the same way and gave error 800f0826.

"Windows Update error 800f0826 is displayed when an update for Windows has failed to install and is preventing you from installing additional updates. Error 800f0826 does not identify the update that has caused the problem. The update that has caused the problem will display a different error."

I am guessing it will probably lead to the earlier error 80070002.

I looked in to the CBS.log and have trimmed it to just show the complete log from start of installation till failure. Have zipped it since its quite huge text file. I just don't know what to look for.

It looks to me as if Windows cannot properly read the SP1 files - tehre are a lot of errors similar to...

Did you check the hash for the download? did you verify the burn (if appropriate)?

How do I find the correct hash or crc?

Also I googled this page and on searching I did have some similar errors 'Error_Not_Found'

The cbs log has some of those as well. Could that be the problem?

The CBS always contains a number of apparent errors - which in fact aren't errors at all - mostly, if the column next to the date/time doesn't state 'Error' you can ignore them.
( so in your posted clips, there's only three notable errors - the first two of which is simply becuase it didn't find any driver updates, and was therefore worked through)

    Please post the windowsupdate.log

I think You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services still applies here - please use the fixit (and reboot) after downloading a fresh standalone SP1 from Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center
    You'll want windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

Once youv'e rebooted after running the fixit, boot to a Clean Boot and run the standalone....

    I would recommend ComputeHASH:
