Windows 7: Widows update keeps failing and trying to reinstall on Netframework

I am getting an endless loop on KB2698023 NetFramework update for NetFramework version 1.1. Installations keeps failing and then keeps asking to be installed.

1) can I just uninstall Net framework 1.1...and try reinstalling just 1.1 ?

2) is there a way to tell if I need any Net framework versions (especially 1.1) on the PC at all ?

You can uninstall .NET Framework 1.1 - but 2, 3, and 3.5 are all part of the Operating system and so cannot be uninstalled.
Go to the Uninstall Programs listing - it should be in there (not the Installed Updates!)

Uhmm...what about the warning in the jpg re removing NetFrameWork1.1 update in "Remove Programs"

Ignore it - but do a check for updates after removal

.NET update problems are the bane of everyone's life, everywhere!

.NET 1.1 is really 'old' now - it was a rehash of 1.0, and was created before the release of Vista - If I remember right, Vista didn't include it, as it was considered old technology even then.
