Error 0x80070643 Service pack 1 install failure

About a week ago, I installed a new SSD and configured it as my boot drive running Win 7 Ultimate. Everything was working fine until yesterday. I ran windows update and attempted to install 2 updates and was prompted to restart. I clicked start-->install updates and shut down. When it was shutting down, the PC began stage 1 of 2 of configuring Service Pack. After 30% completion in stage 1, the computer restarts and begins configuring service pack again, starting from 30% where it left off. It gets up to 32% and stays there for about 30-45 min and the begins "Shutting Down" for an hour or so. Once it shuts down, I power it back on. Displayed is:

    Stage 1 of 2
    Failure configuring Service Pack
    Reverting changes
Do not turn off your computer

I left this screen displayed for over 3 hours before performing a hard shut down and starting windows in safe mode for it to finally boot fully to windows. At that point, I receive an error stating that the Service Pack installation was not successful.

If any of you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. I have gone through this process 3 times now. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your response. I went through all the steps but the .zip CBS file is 14.9 MB and the forum will not allow me to attach any .zip files larger than 8.3 MB. Can I send you an email or private message? any other ideas on how to upload it?

Upload it to either your SkyDrive (https://skydrive.live.com ) or other favorite fileshare site, and post a link

And you already know the error code that I'm getting. Much appreciated!

You had a HUGE number of files replaced by SFC - 1400 or so!
    Surprisingly, CheckSUR found nothing wrong.

I suggestt hat you run SFC again - this time, just post the latest cbs.log file rather than the whole folder.
You'll need to copy it to the desktop, and zip and upload it from there.

That's somewhat better, I think - but it still had a lot to do. (and a lot I don't understand about it!)
Have you moved the Program FIles folder across to a new drive?

Please run another SFC scan (again!) and post the new result, and we'll see where we are.

I havent moved my program files but wanted windows to default new program installs to my D drive. In an attempt to make that happen I went to regedit (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-->SOFTWARE-->Microsoft-->Windows-->CurrentVersion) and changed the "ProgramFilesDir" and the "ProgramFilesDir (x86)" to a path on the D drive instead of the C drive.

    OMIGAWD!
You have now irrevocably screwed your machine.
You will have to reformat and rinstall, as you've got both 32-bit and 64-bit Program Files folders pointing to the same destination - Windows will not have a clue what's going on.
