Windows Update Issue

I've used Belarc for many years on many machines (including XP, Vista, 7) and I cannot recall it ever listing missing updates that weren't really legitimate updates. But I don't have access to a 32bit 7 machine to check this out. What update was it?

And yes, I wouldn't worry too much about that low score. It does focus more on security for business systems. But it doesn't hurt to check on the different things you would need to change to improve your security without losing the functionality you desire (it's all trade-offs). Click the "details" link next to your score to see. You may not be able to improve your score much (if at all), but every little hole you can close (without impacting the functionality that you don't want to live without) improves your security a little. By the way, assuming you meant your score was .63 rather than .063, your score would improve to 1.25 if it thought Windows was up to date.

I ran Belrac again, same score, .63, but this time only one update, KB2658846, a security update, was listed as missing. However, when I ran it from the Microsoft website, it stated not applicable to my computer.

Before, there were 2 and I did not write the other number down, but it was for a 64bit. Just for chagrins, I think I will go back to IE9 and try again ? Thoughts ?

Went back to IE9 and ran Belrac. Same score, same missing update, a hotfix which states is not applicable to my computer. However, in the description for KB2658846 on the M'soft website, it states it is for Win7, SP1 which I am running.

No problems. I will just monitor. Computer is running fine. Thinking of going to Win8 anyway. :)

How did you go about removing IE10? An uninstall, a System Restore, or something else?

By the way, you can review Belarc's previous output by navigating to the temp subdirectory within Belarc's program directory. Every so often I copy the two html files it produces to another location in case I ever want to go back to see "what was what" way back when. Every time you run Belarc it overwrites those two files with the new output.

Update Uninstall. It is downloaded/uninstalled as an update.

Wonder if a System Restore would've been a cleaner way to remove it. There may be remnants leftover that could be interfering.

Maybe, I always read that update removal is adequate. Actually, computer is doing fine, no obvious problems. Anxiously await next round of M'soft Updates on Tuesday or whenever.
