Build 7601 - this copy of windows is not genuine

I bought a newly built desktop PC from a private seller on eBay about three months ago and everything has been running fine but today I got a full screen message, before the desktop appeared, saying Windows 7 is not genuine. The error code at the bottom-left of this is 0xC004F032.

When I go past that I get a popup from MSE saying Windows 7 is not genuine, and the desktop has a message at the bottom-right saying "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of windows in not genuine".

Now I realise, since this was from a private seller, it could well be this message is correct. Maybe my own fault for buying a PC with software from eBay! But I want to be sure of things before I go ahead and buy a new copy of Windows 7.

I've tried activating online, but am again told it's not a genuine copy. Is there any way you guys can tell if this is right or not from the attached diagnostic report?

Also, why would I only get this message now, after three months? Nothing has changed with the PC - no new motherboard or new anything as far as hardware since purchase.

Thanks very much for any help you can offer.

You have an Acer OEM_SLP Product Key installed on a Retail motherboard manufacturered 6 months before Windows 7 was released, with an apparent SLIC rable from Gigabyte.

    Your installation is counterfeit.

You will need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

Thanks very much for the information - I'll do exactly that.

Probably not a lot I can do regarding the eBay seller now either, as it's been months since I bought it. Ah well, thanks again for looking over this for me. Greatly appreciated.

You can always threaten him with Trading Standards, the Police (Fraud Squad), and the local authority (not to mention 'The Boys' <eg>) and see whether he stumps up at least some cash towards the license.

Heh I might do some/all of the above! He could have put a proper OEM version on there when he built it and saved everyone some hassle and money, now I need the full Windows 7 home premium - which is over £100. Bah!

If you can find one, you can still use the OEM license (it's not strictly kosher, but no-one's been done for it yet!)
