You're a braver man than I an, Gunga Din!

Good luck
- With that number of errors, I'm more worried about what else is missing/malformed in the registry than anything else (perhaps geting things fised, then uninstalling and reinstalling the patches would be a good idea?)

There's brave and stupid, I'm probably more of the latter trying this!

With chkdsk returning no issues, I thought I might as well try the fix and resort to a repair install if we have to, I guess we'll have to see what issues remain after the fix then work from that

(It'll probably be necessary to run another SFC after CheckSUR gives it the all clear - to repair any missing files that were referenced by the missing manifests, etc.)

Tom and Noel, thank you for your efforts.

I downloaded the package, copied the files, and ran the tool again. Attached is the log. Windows Update history shows three failed updates dated today (KB2735855, KB2741355, KB2719857), followed by a successful installation of KB947821.

I've always considered any kind of install (including a repair install) to be a nuclear option and so always try to avoid it. It always generates more work than I bargain for. I'm not concerned about my files and programs because they are backed up, just the time and effort. I would prefer to go with the links.

Well done Tom!
Got 'em all with one pass!!

@aprete - please run another SFC /SCANNOW, and post the new CBS.log so we can see if there's anything more needs doing.

I hope it's not too late; before I got your last message I tried to install the five fixes linked to in the earlier post; four went on successfully (KB2761226 failed). Rebooted and reran Windows Update, which still showed three important and two recommended fixes. I tried to install these and got TWO types of NEW errors (80073715 and 80070002), plus another 8024200D. Running SFC now; will report back later with the CBS.log. I won't do anything else until I've given you both a chance to reply.

SFC /SCANNOW gives no integrity errors.

CBS.log zipped and attached.

Let's see what SFC has to say - and please run another CheckSUR afterwards, and post the log.

There are some interesting lines in the SFC report - I just wish I had a clue what they meant! The SFC didn'tt attempt any repairs, so that's a good sign.

Please list the KB numbers of the failing updates, with the failure code for each.

The first failure was attempting to install the fix from Microsoft's website (the link earlier in this thread). The other fixes from Microsoft's website installed successfully.

The other four failures were attempting to run Windows Update.

This information cut and pasted from Windows Update.

I downloaded the WIN7 x64 SP1 ISO in case I need to take the nuclear option.

Do you want me to run Windows6.1-KB947821-v25-x64.msu again and post the CheckSUR.persist.log?

Thanks.
