Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service

is not running a restart may be required.

I've restarted my computer several times with no success. I'm lost. Will someone please help!

When I go to Services Windows Update does not show up I'm running Windows 7 64bit.

Also, when I try to install my printer, I get a message saying the driver's signature is not being recognized. I'm not sure if the two issues are related. Please advise. Please please advise

Seen this a couple times at work - go in to the Control Panel and search for Troubleshooting - there's a section in there to fix errors with Windows Update. Usually, letting that run, along with a reboot, will fix that.

If that doesn't help, try this: How to repair many areas of Vista and Windows 7 automatically - Windows Repair All-In-One

Do steps 3 and 4. On the Start Repairs tab, click the Unselect All button then Check Repair Windows Update then click Start.

See if that helps.

Open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and run the following commands

NET START BFE
NET START BITS
NET START WUAUSERV
NET START TRUSTEDINSTALLER

post the results.

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

That looks normal.
Perhaps we'd better start from scratch

Noel,
I downloaded the "Readiness Toll" and when I went to run the program I received an error message. " Installer encountered an error 0xc8000247"

So I couldn't even run the program

Never mind - please run the SFC scan, and then post the logs.
