Getting the 'build 7600 is not genuine' problem

    Hello all,

All of a sudden I have this message in the corner of my screen- Windows 7 Build 7600- This copy of Windows is not genuine. The last thing I changed in my system was adding an SSD which was about 3 months ago now, and haven't had any problems.

It is on Windows 7 Ultimate and I have had it installed for nearly 2 years now(jan 2011).

Here is the info I believe is required-

A few pop-ups lead me to some kind of Windows validation where after a few minutes it came up with the message- "The product key used to activate Windows on your PC is already in use on another PC or has been blocked by Microsoft. Not to worry, we can help you with that."

    Thank you for your time

The Key in use is an MSDN Key from a not-for-resale MSDN account.
Unless you are an MSDN subscriber, you are not entitled to use the Key – and whoever sold it to you was not entitled to do so.
You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key (all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

Please read the following posts.... .................................

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

Thank you for your reply Noel.....looks like there is a fair bit of messing around for me then to resolve this!

I will try for a refund and report the seller(it was from Amazon Marketplace btw)...I think I fell in to the trap of believing Amazon MP to be better than ebay, when in fact they are the same.

Serves me right though....It was when I was building my PC and I was looking to save where I could to put towards other parts! I shall try to make sure more people know about this as well

    Once again, thanks.
