I thought I responded to this earlier??? - never mind...
They all look OK - or at least the resultant permissions should be OK.

There's obviously a problem with the source files rather than the destination ones....
Let's check that the catdb file actually exists....

DIR C:\Windows\catdb /s
ATTRIB C:\Windows\catdb /s
(they could take a minute or two to run - be patient!

That's what I was afraid of - the catdb files haven't been recreated at all, although the structure is there.

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Method 2)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and attach it to your reply.

Not unexpected, I'm afraid -

I can really only think a full reset of Windows Updates is necessary, and we'll see if that kicks things into starting properly.
How do I reset Windows Update components?

It's indicates that it found and fixed 2 windows Update problems; However, I'm still getting the same Error message from the CheckSUR tool.

OK - please run the following command and post the results....

DIR C:\Windows\System32\Catroot /s
DIR C:\Windows\System32\Catroot2 /s
ATTRIB C:\Windows\System32\Catroot2\*.* /S

(don't worry about the first one scrolling off the top - I simply need the number of files and folders found)

I have no idea what the dberr.txt file will contain - or how to read it! - but please attach it to a reply, and I'll see if it gives me a clue of any kind.
