Can I permanently stop Windows from updating my graphics driver?

Hi,

It's vital that I don't let Windows update my Nvidia graphics driver as the current versions cause serious problems with the video editing application that I use.

I have Update set up to notify me but not automatically install updates. Is there any way to permanently remove this particular update from the list or do I just have to remember to keep unchecking it's box?

I know I can right-click and hide the update but I'm worried it will still install even though it no longer appears in the list. Also, if this is the way to do it will I still have to watch out for newer versions popping up in the list?

if you right-click on the update, and select Hide, it won't be offered again until it's updated.
Alternatively switch OFF the Givie me Recommended updates the same as important' setting in the WU options.

Even simpler Turn off the Stupid Auto Updates. Select Never check for updates then do it manually so you can see and Select what updates to install.

I check for updates maybe once every few months and actually install updates less then that. I also don't use any AV or malware programs and have never been infected with anything. That is on multiple computer running both XP and Win 7.

This whole idea of constantly downloading and installing update is just ridiculous. If it Ain't Broke stop trying to fix it.

If you don't want any drivers updated by Windows Update you could have a look at this Device Installation Settings

Make sure you read the notes.

Hi Noel, I forgot to mention that I already had that turned off.

Duzzy, that looks like what I want. I've set it to not allow any drivers or information to be installed.

Thanks to all.

Can't guarantee it'll will work though it should (we are talking about Windows here) so still check before installing the updates the first couple of times untill your satisfied that it's no longer being offered.

Should of said that in my previous post sorry.

If you never use any AV or malware programs, how do you know you're not infected?
