Help with back up and re installing win7 hp 64 bit

Hey, I wasn't sure whether to put this thread in this section or the installation & setup thread but I chose here.

Basically, I need to re install my window 7 using the operating system disc that came with the computer a number of years ago because an error comes up saying that my copy of windows is not genuine (it is).

So, yesterday I used the backup tool that's implemented into windows to backup my files. First question is, does the backup tool backup all my files including music and word documents, and also my program files such as Google chrome and iTunes?

Secondly, how would I go about re installing windows 7. I've looked around a bit but I'm still not really sure. I've got the installation disc so I can do a custom re install or upgrade.
I tried to do an upgrade because I don’t want to have my files deleted but as I’m not technically upgrading I cannot do that. So how would I go about re installing windows 7?

If your PC came with Win7 preinstalled, you should not be encountering a not genuine message -- because activation in those circumstances is accomplished using a BIOS table -- which should not have changed.

You would get better answers in the activation and updates section -- so I'll ask a Mod to move this there.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.
