I *think* I may have found the proper files - there's only one way to find out
I've uploaded a file - packages.zip - to my SkyDrive at https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=936736BB8FCEB92F&id=936736BB8FCEB92F%21526 Please download and save it. Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all… Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder packages in the same place. Open this folder - Copy the content of the Packages folder to the C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)
Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.
Then do a manual scan for updates and see what happens.
well..in the zip file you uploaded there are only packages files (.cat and .mum). I can't find any .manifest ...
Computer type Laptop System Manufacturer/Model Number Asus K52F OS Win 7 x64 Home Premium (and x86 VirtualBox VM) CPU i3 370M Motherboard Asus Memory 8GB - finally :) Graphics Card it's an i3, dude! Sound Card onboard Monitor(s) Displays 15.6" built-in Screen Resolution 1366x768

Sundry external drives attached to other computers on the local network Internet Speed as much as I can get - usually on a dongle, so <1Mb/s Antivirus MSE Browser IE10/Chrome/FF(if I must)
Ok, I did what you asked for and I've attached the files. I've looked into CheckSUR.log and if I'm correct the 2 last errors aren't fixed. Should I try to run windows update anyway? Thanks again for helping, really.
Not yet - I think I know what the problem is (I need to rename the files first, and I got one wrong anyhow)
Please delete the current packages.zip file, and the packages folder, while I work out what to do.

(thank god for Virtual machines - it makes things a lot less uncertain!)
I've posted a new packages.zip file

Noel...turns out you won! Now I'll add you reputation, if there's something else I can do to thank you just let me know! Just a question...are the files that you gave me made/edited by you or you just collected them for me? If that is the case, where did you find them? I'm asking because if this problem occurs again maybe I can handle it myself instead of bothering you =) ...whatever, thank you !
