    Windows not genuine

Hi there! I hope I get a reply to this... i've had a look at some of the threads and this one seems to be exactly what is happening to my system. I bought the PC custom made and he told me windows was installed and ready to go... about 3 months in it now says it is not genuine. I'm now trying the malware solution and chkdsk in case mine reboots and activates! Fingers crossed. Here is my read out currently...

Any help would be great, i know it's an old thread but no one seems to know what I should do. I have contacted the seller of the PC to hopefully get some understanding on what he did before he sold it to me.

Your installation is calseed as counterfeit - Windows has discovered an Activation Exploit.
Your motherboard appears to be a Retail one - the Key is from a Dell computer, as does the SLIC table - but there is no way that Dell would insert a SLIC table into such a BIOS.

You will need to refomat and reinstall with legitimate media and Key

Dammit. I'm furious. I am going to report the seller of my computer to Microsoft I think. He should NOT be selling a computer with a fake windows OS on it. I'm livid. I don't want to fork out to buy a copy when I should have got it legit with the computer. Am i right in thinking that it'll continue to work until I get a legit version but I just wont be able to update it? Thanks for your help... really appreciate it.

You'll be able to get security updates only. MSE will cease to work after 30 days, if installed, and other functions which depend on validation will also stop working (there aren't many).

Is there a COA sticker on the case of the machine for ANY version of Windows?

You should threaten the vendor with legal action (Trading Standards/Police/etc.) and see if that provokes an offer of a refund.

Could you tell me where the COA on a PC tower would likely be? Would it be on the casing or inside on one of the components?

Well I've contacted the seller of the PC and he says "My friend installed windows 7 on the computer for me so i don't have the details... I can't help you sorry."

Not... happy. I'm going to reply and tell him that he should get all the details he can from his "friend" and let him know that selling a computer with a fake copy of windows on is illegal and I will be contacting microsoft to report piracy as I thought I was buying a computer with a REAL version of windows ultimate on.

I wouldn't have bought it from him had I known he was doing this. If he has done this what else about the computer might not 100% legit?

Anyway. Thanks for your help on this matter. I'll see how I get on threatening him with trading standards and I bought it through eBay so I might contact eBay too and report him that way.

If I don't get it sorted I'll just have to see about getting vista or 7 from somewhere.

According to the licensing rules it should be on the outside - often it's on the back, but I've seen them put just about anywhere (including on the inside of the case)

I started my computer this morning and found it says my Windows 7 is not genuine. I bought and installed the software over a year ago and never had a problem. I did a security scan and found several Trojan horses. I removed them but I still get the message and my desktop color has changed to black.
I did a registry clean but the problem still persist.
    Any ideas?

Please start a NEW thread of your own, and include an MGADiag report....

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.
