Every time my computer would try and update - it would take FOREVER so I would do it at night. When I would wake up my computer would be normal so I thought the updates went through. Here are the results from the last command.

Do you think I will be able to fix this problem at home with your help? Do you know how this problem happened? Thank you for your time.

To be honest, at the moment, I have no idea how fixable this is.
The Key contents is normal, so far as it goes - but ALL the subkeys are missing!
I think we'd better start from scratch and reset the whole WU system, and see what happens.
How do I reset Windows Update components?

I ran the fixit (also did that prior to posting on this forum) and it said it 'fixed' 2 things. The program instructed me to try running the task to see if FixIt worked... I tried to install itunes (the installation that led to realizing this problem) and it still didnt work ;(

iTunes is probably the worst one you could possibly try - their programming is on a par with mine

Try something nice and simple.....
see what happens if you try uninstalling the WAT update and reinstalling it....

Close all open windows.
Open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and type the following command

wusa /uninstall /kb:971033

and hit the Enter key
Accept the warnings/confirmations, and wait for it to complete

copy and paste the output (if any) from the command prompt window to a reply here,
Reboot

reinstall the update from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033
Reboot

run another MGADiag report, and post it.

Oh no! The first command didnt even go through and a message box came up:

Installer encountered an error 0x8000ffff
Catastrophic failure

Well that sounds bad.....should I still reboot?

Not a lot of point
I was hoping for a more informative error message than that - but it does lead to another fixit
Error code 0x80000FFFF when you download updates on a Windows Vista-based computer by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update
run that one, and we'll see what it has to say.

I ran that FixIt - the run did not have much of 'report' but mentioned that it processed and I needed to reboot - which i did, should I try to run the command again that prompted that 8000ffff error message
