    Tom,

If I'm reading it correctly...registry mission accomplished.

    Hi Louis,

You've read it perfectly, everything has been solved!

What happens when you try to update now?

    Tom,

I have several updates waiting. I chose the first one and it failed to install with the error code on the attachment.

    Tom,

Before I forget, should I delete the older, renamed component files in the config folder?

    Tom,

Seems the error code points to the Win 7 certification problem. I came across this site
New updates (KB2633870 & KB2600217) failing with code 800B010B. Here we go yet again...

The Win7 pro disc that I have is licensed and the license worked until recently. I have suspected that the Update failures and the certification issue are related.

    Hi Louis,

If you ever get short of disk space, delete the backup file(s) that we made under C:\Windows\system32\config, but I would keep at least one unless you really need to get rid of them, just in case something goes wrong with the one that we have in use at the moment.

800B010B is a strange error, I've never come across one of those before, but at least it's a little more informative than the errors for your missing C Marks.

Could you download this file please:

    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16537616/NDP40-KB2729449.msp

Right click > Properties > Digital Signatures > Click on the entry > Details > View Certificate > Install Certificate.

Then reboot, and try updating again please.

    Tom,

Installed the certificate, tried the same update and got the failure with the same code.

    Tom,

It is now 1500 EST. I have to leave for several hours around 1530 hours. I'll stay tuned until then.

    Tom,

I see that you are still active. Wanted to let you know that I'm back. And I am amazed with your ability to correct all of the registry problems.
