Windows 7 not genuine error Validation code 0x8004FE21
Hi,

I upgraded the hard drive in my Acer Aspire notebook a month ago, successfully activated Windows and was running fine until a couple of days ago. Now I am getting the seemingly common (in this forum) Windows not Genuine error. I have attached the output from MGADiag below.



For reference, the Acer Aspire notebook is 3-years old, came preinstalled with Vista together with a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it launched, which I installed 2 years ago. Running fine the last 3 years.

Yep - it's probably the Intel drivers that need updating.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=17412


Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

I downloaded the drivers and ran the installation, but it is telling me that my current driver version is newer than the downloaded ones. Are there any newer versions, or it is fine to go ahead and install the older downloaded ones?

Let's try the latest IRST drivers then....

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

(you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

Your report looks fine now
FWIW, the reason I pointed you at the ISMT Drivers first was simply the age of your machine - I've found that most machines of that age won't take the later IRST ones.

My only saving grace is reading MGADiag reports, and occasionally managing to fix WU problems - if it's anything else, you'll have to settle for one of the other guys/gals here
