This copy of windows 7 x64 home premium is not genuine

I had to reinstall my OS due to a hard drive failure about a month ago. When I did I used the re-installation disk that came with computer. Everything was fine until yesterday. Out of nowhere I am getting a message that my copy of Windows is not genuine. I tried system restore and used a restore point that was created right after I installed the OS. Still no good. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Open the System control panel. (Hot key: Windows key + the "pause" key.)

Is Windows activated? (Near the bottom of the window.)

I'd expect a factory restore to be pre-activated, but if it's not, try activating using the key from the Win7 license sticker.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

    https://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

The installation of Windows 7 is non-genuine.
The machine was built well over a year before Win7 was released to the public, and is therefore licensed only for Vista.
The reinstall appears to have been done with a Dell Recovery disk from a different computer.

If you have a valid Windows 7 Key for this machine, you can make it genuine by changing the installed Key to that, using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System Properties page.

The reinstall was done with a Win 7 disk I took out of my humongous pile of reinstall disks. Are you saying that I am not able to install Win 7 on my laptop with a disk I own?

The disk is almost irrelevant - the computer must be licensed for the OS that you install.
This computer is definitely licensed for Vista - it's only licensed for Windows 7 if you have either an Upgrade license for it, or a Full license and Key for it.

    Oh.

Win7 installed with a random unmatched OEM restore disk, that is looking for an SLP code in the (intended) machine's BIOS. That's too bad.

System Locked Pre-installation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The OS installation and restore disks that you have are incidental, although they can be inconvenient to replace if you lose them. What you "own" are Windows licenses, each of which has restrictions as to how it may be used. The least expensive ones (OEM licenses that come with appliance PCs and laptops) may have severe restrictions, like they may only be activated on the original PC.
