CheckSUR says that it managed to fix everything it found.

The SFC log is really a bit of a mess ;(
It says 'repairing 2 components' and then proceeds to try and replace a dozen files (possibly because of the corrupted files found by CheckSUR later)
I would suggest running another SFC scan, and posting the new log - some of what was found will have been affected by the CheckSUR results.

I'm never sure what order to do these scan in - but on balance I think that SFC first then CheckSUR is the right order. Your experience here seems to put the lie to that :)

Hi Noel - I re-ran SFC - files are attached and tried to reinstall/run the Windows Update tool but it says "Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) could not be installed". I've reattached all logs again. But I don't think the Windows Update tool has run properly this time.

Until we get the SFC results to run clean, I doubt very much you have any chance of getting Windows update to run properly.
Here's the relevant are of the SFC report

    I've uploaded a file - cllaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=936736BB8FCEB92F&id=936736BB8FCEB92F%21526
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
This should create a folder C:\cllaa

Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\cllaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\cllaa
    or
    DIR E:\cllaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\cllaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your SkyDrive Public folder, and post a new link

Also run a new MGADiag report, and post the result.

Noel - I've run the command as above (the DIR for us was D:) and attached is the CBS.log file.
Have also run the MGADiag tool and the results are:

There's no change ins the SFC report - I think I know why, but I'm trying to work out how best to fix it.
There appears to be a problem with the manifest file associated with the replacement files, which results in their being seen as corrupt.
Please run the following commands, and post the results - it may help me work out how to fix things.....

    Code:

    DIR C:\Winsxs\Manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-d..frameworks-usermode_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17803_none_fb416b4f0bdbe260.manifest

That's all right - just copy/paste all the commands at once, and then copy/paste the results back to your reply.

(It actually may tell us something important!)
